Updates from the Studio

March 10th, 2010

Hi Reader!!

Well, what a weekend it has been! Probably one of the most successful weekends we have had in deepest, darkest Somerset.

The vast array of amps used to get that tone just right.

We managed to lay down the guitar tracks for Stepping of the Train and Wrong Side of the Tracks, with Mark managing to lay down his on the first take (after a few hours of “Getting his tone right”!), and producing one of the most blistering guitar solo’s yet! All amps and speaker cabs were lined up, ready for Mark and Ben to test every possible variation; including an old, wooden, and defiantly retro ”box” amp (belonging to my brother, Tom), which Mark immediately fell in love with.

Along side this, we added a new intro to Wrong Side of the Tracks, with Mark and Ben producing riffs, tones and effects to transport you back in time. The 1960’s called guys, and they want their psychedelia back!

Finally on Sunday we set out to practice and learn a few covers, but all those thoughts were pushed to the side when the first jam produced a new song, a bit desert inspired, and a whole lotta rock. It’s over six minutes long (a rarity for us!), called “Anything More Than This (Never Could Be)” and we can’t wait for you all to hear it!

Hope to see you all soon!

First Bristol Gig with Surface Unsigned

March 6th, 2010

At last! Yellowgroove are playing their first Bristol gig and it’s made all the more important as it is in conjunction with the Surface Unsigned Festival. This is a competition for unsigned bands all over the UK, being run to seek out the best up and coming acts. The 1st prize is over £60K worth of music industry support and a european festival mainstage slot.

The competition is purely votes based with the votes organised into a ratings structure
1 text vote = 1 rating
1 audience vote = 5 ratings
1 musicians’ vote = 20 ratings
1 industry vote = 30 ratings

We need as many of you as possible to come and see us to help us get through to the next round! Getting through to the next stage means bigger gigs, more exposure and being closer to winning!

The gig will feature about 8 bands, all in a similar rock/bluesy style. Yellowgroove are the last band on at 10.30pm. The Thunderbolt is a smallish venue about 5 minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads Sation. Lifts from the station will be available if needed.

Tickets are available from us at £6 (that’s only 75p per band!) it is unlikely that tickets will be available on the door. We’re hoping to get at least 50 people down to see us, so please come if you can! Simply make a paypal transfer to yellowgroove@googlemail.com, along with your address, and we’ll send them out to you asap, free postage.

The date for this gig is Wednesday 24th March!

Hope FM single available NOW! For free, of course.

March 6th, 2010

For those who have been reading our blogs, you will know as well as getting through to the Live and Unsigned Regional Finals and gigging so hard the exhaust on our transit fell off, we have also been recording our new single, Stepping off the Train.

"I know it looks beautiful Mark, but we can't bring it"

Although the train is indeed a coming, we thought why wait for Yellowgroove, er, grooveyness, when we can milk release limited edition stuff for free, to whet your appetites for the real material single.

So, our Hope FM unplugged session is now available for free from our shop page. The tracklisting includes an unplugged Shoot You Down – regular fans of our live set will probably think this an impossibility. Well it isn’t, so there. Check it out, and blog us some time to let us know what you think. Replies of “Stick to electric” will result in appropriate return abuse.

Love and Hugs,

Yellowgroove.

Yellowgroove in the Live and Unsigned Regional Finals

March 5th, 2010

The guys will play the regional finals on 18th april.

Hey guys,

we’ve been chosen from 300 bands to play at the Live and Unsigned Regional Finals in Ferneham Hall, Fareham. We will be playing on 18th April, so if you want to get down and support us, send us a blog and we’ll swing some tickets your way. Below is the official press release about the competition, hope to see you there!

Local talent shines in the UK’s biggest original music competition.

Yellowgroove from Bournemouth has wowed the judging panel and sailed through the audition stage of Live and Unsigned. Yellowgroove will now be competing against the other most talented bands and artists in the country at the live shows of Live and Unsigned 2010 – all in a bid to be signed!

Yellowgroove battled against hundreds of auditionees to secure a spot in the live shows and now has the opportunity to prove that they are the best in the region. Acts that have made it through auditions will now take part in a live head to head battle in front of thousands of spectators and a professional judging panel to progress to the Live and Unsigned Festival at the 02 in London.

The winners of 2010 will be thrust into the media spotlight through television, radio and the press and will have the opportunity to tour the UK. The tour involves as many as 100 gigs across the UK including the chance to perform live at some well known festivals. One contestant who has caught the judge’s eye this year is local talent Yellowgroove, now competing in the Regional Final. Yellowgroove made it through the auditions at Portsmouth amongst hundreds that queued for their turn in front of the judges. Yellowgroove are now preparing for the live show on 18th April at Ferneham Hall, Fareham for the opportunity to progress towards the Live and Unsigned festival at the O2 in London.
